Dutch PPE Solutions starting production of face masks

7 January 2021

Today, Willem van der Leegte symbolically handed over the ‘first’ face mask from Dutch PPE Solutions to John Jorritsma, Chairman of the Security Region. By doing so, our CEO has marked the start for the production of high-quality face masks at VDL in Helmond.

Dutch PPE Solutions is a collaboration between VDL and DSM. In addition to the production of the masks, they are also setting up a production site at DSM in Geleen for melt-blown polypropylene, the critical filter layer in face masks that protects against viruses. This site will be the first in the Netherlands where this material is manufactured.

“I’m proud of the fact that VDL and DSM, two powerful Dutch companies, have decided to join forces. The need for reliable supply chains is greater than ever. This way, we are able to set up a reliable, sustainable and high-quality production chain in the Netherlands that makes our country less dependent on supplies from abroad”, Willem van der Leegte explains.

Willem van der Leegte has symbolically handed over the ‘first’ face mask to John Jorritsma, Chairman of the Security Region. “It’s great that VDL and DSM are taking their responsibility in this”, Jorritsma states. “The ability to supply high-quality homegrown face masks for healthcare workers is in the national interest. This makes us no longer dependent on other parts of the world.”
